SUNDAY AT THE HIRSCHTRITTS

Once again, Nancy and Joel graciously opened their home on Park Avenue to the immediate family for a Sunday get-together. It was the way it was when we were little, when Bess would do the same thing. As always, the food was great. In fact, Nancy outdid herself. It's very hard to be in this family when you must outdo yourself on every occasion. And yet, we somehow all manage to do it. There was a spread of deli, together with three homemade "cakes," one of pumpernickel bread, cream cheese and lox; the other of brie, nuts, bleu cheese and port, with grapes; the third was chocolate chip.

The other wonderful thing about these brunches is that they bring us together as a family in a wonderfully warm atmosphere, and we can all enjoy each other across the generations.

Jonathan and Marjorie drove me back to their place, I spent a few minutes more, and Jonathan buzzed me to the train, where I met Carol, who had spent the mid-afternoon at JTS, plotting academic intrigues on behalf of the Jewish People.

To close, did you know that Josie's real name is Josephine Olive Steuer Ingall?
