FLUFFY z"l

Fluffy..Outer box

Fluffy was a cute little white Westmoreland terrier. She died in 1996. The Hirschtritts forgot that they had left her ashes in a tin of candy until this summer, when they offered some candy to the head of the United Jewish Appeal of New York. Imagine his surprise! So, they decided to inter Fluffy in Quogue, next to their beloved rabid racoon, Rephoel.

The Hevra Kadisha stood solemnly (except for Nancy, who smiled graciously throughout).

Hevra Kadisha..Nancy & urn..Nancy & urn..

Joel dug the requisite hole and Nancy laid the ashes to rest. We voted on keeping the urn vs. burying it, and decided to keep the urn, which does make a lovely candy dish.

The gravedigger..Ashes to ashes

I recited the El Moleh in memory of Fluffy, and my rendition moved the assembled group to tears.
