SCHWARTZES & BARYLICKS

John Barylick..Marie Barylick

Tuesday night, the Shuly and Gershon Schwartz came by for supper on the way to Fall River, his ancestral home, to visit his mother. Shuly is Carol's colleague at JTS and Gershon is the rabbi at the famous Frank Lloyd Wright Synagogue in Elkins Park, PA. [Of course, now it is known as the Gershon Schwartz Synagogue.] They are lovely people, easy to be with and very funny. Carol served a great piece of striped bass that I caught at Whole Foods Market and grilled to perfection (if I may say so, myself) on the barbecue. Carol made a wonderful taboulieh with fresh mint and a great salad. Wines were a Prosecco on the deck, and Jordan chardonnay.

Wednesday night, John & Marie Barylick came down. John is my sushi partner. Together, we ask the eternal questions: Can a tenor and a bass co-exist? Can a ruthless malpractice attorney and a kindly beneficent psychiatrist sit down and eat raw fish together? Will peace come to the Middle East? Marie is John's partner, and also the key player in Volunteers in Providence Schools. The two pictures above are unlabeled. You will have to guess who is the rabbi, who is the malpractice attorney, who the philanthropic executive, and who the JTS professor. Dinner was swordfish from Aquidneck Lobster that was so fresh it screamed when it hit the grille (sorry, Neal). It was preceded by a fabulous appetizer of spinach ravioli with gorgonzola cheese and sundried tomatoes, butter, and thyme. There was a wonderful salad, and for dessert, an extraordinary key lime pie (with real key limes) from The Market. Wines were a St. Hilaire Champagne, and a pinot grigio.

On to Josie and parents
